1. Please introduce yourself first.
Hello, friends!

My name is Drawing Bear (絵描き熊)!
(Because I love drawing and bears, I use the name "Drawing Bear" for my activities!)


2. When did you start creating? Do you have any special stories to share with us?
Since 2020, I have been active as a creator.

I have always loved drawing since I was a child, so although I continued to draw as a hobby, I had never submitted anything anywhere before.

At that time, I was working as customer service staff at the airport, and due to the COVID-19 pandemic, work reduced. Because I had too much free time, I bought an iPad. (Laughs)

It was then that my colleague invited me to play VALORANT (FPS), and I became super addicted.

I started to hope that more people around the world could understand this game and understand esports teams! So I started drawing illustrations.

I received good feedback from my partner (laughs), and then she suggested, "How about uploading illustrations on SNS?" So I submitted illustrations related to the game on SNS (favorite agents in VALORANT and favorite e-sports teams).

I remember when I got over 10,000 "likes" for the first time, I was a little afraid and thought, "As a consequence, will something bad happen?"

Thanks to the fans who often give me a thumbs-up, friends who play games together every day, e-sports teams that bring hope and inspiration to life, and my partner and family who always support me, I can continue my activities.


3. Please share the creative inspiration and process behind your Summer24 submission.
Actually, I applied for Winter23, but unfortunately, it didn't materialize into a product.

At that time, it was filled with things that "I" liked, things that "I" found cute (girls and polar bears, as well as designs with lots of scattered stickers).

However, when I looked back later, wasn't it because this wasn't what everyone wanted? And I reflected on it.

Therefore, when designing this time, I specifically wanted to create something that "everyone" would instinctively want to use.

I realized the following points:

When playing games, I often use the upper left corner and the center (in my case), so I avoided drawing illustrations there (as they might become worn out and less visible over time).
I hope to design something that would look good as a background for a streamer.
Although the theme is free, since it will be released during the summer, I want it to evoke the feeling of summer.
I want to create a mousepad that looks great even when a mouse is placed on it, and people would want to take photos with their mouse on it.
In addition to a mouse, I also hope that peripheral products such as character standees will look good on it.

Based on these points, I started depicting the theme of "the sea, bears, and a sense of coolness."

Although the design has been finalized and I've started drawing, I've been struggling because of my lack of skills, especially since I've never drawn water surfaces or waves before. So, I searched on YouTube for "how to draw waves," "how to draw water surfaces," "how to draw underwater scenes," and practiced a lot. (I've even practiced so much that when I close my eyes before sleep, I can see blurry waves in front of me! Haha.)

Also, upon reexamining the design, if you only saw a polar bear and a chick floating on the sea, no matter how you looked at it, it seemed like they were drifting (met with misfortune lol) (laughs), so two days before the deadline, I changed it to a swimming pool.

Initially, the bear was a "brown bear." I drew a brown bear assuming it would get tanned, but since I changed the setting to a swimming pool and the overall color scheme became white and aqua, I changed it to a white bear.

Until completion, I made a total of five drafts. Among them, I chose this illustration, and it was also chosen by everyone else. I feel really lucky about that.

5. Is there anything else you would like to say to everyone?
I've received a lot of support and votes from people all over the world. I truly, truly appreciate it!!

The physical item is even better than the illustration!!! (The colors are vivid, and it slides so smoothly!)

I'm honored to contribute to this cause. Also, thank you to VAXEE for creating a platform for creators to showcase their own designs.

If given the chance, I'd also like to take on Winter24! Even though it's scorching hot right now, considering cold designs... It's like the feeling of a singer thinking about Christmas songs while in the middle of the summer sea, that kind of mood when considering Winter24's design. (Laughs)
